Terms of Service
Catching Alpha · Effective September 8, 2026
These terms cover your use of Catching Alpha, a personal fishing log for iPhone. Using the app means you accept them. They are written to be read, not to be impressive.
What the app is
Catching Alpha records your catches, trips and saved spots, and attaches the weather, tide and water conditions at the time and place each catch was made. It is a logbook and a reference. It is not a navigation system and not a safety device.
Conditions data, and its limits
Do not use this app to make decisions about safety on the water. Tide, weather, depth and water temperature come from third parties — NOAA, the National Weather Service, Open-Meteo and OpenWeather — and are supplied as they are given to us.
- Tide heights and times are largely predictions, not measurements. Real water is affected by wind, rain and river flow in ways no prediction accounts for.
- Readings are taken from the nearest suitable station, which may be some distance away. The app shows you that distance for exactly this reason — read it before you rely on a number.
- Charted depths are references, not soundings, and the sea floor moves.
For decisions where being wrong matters, use official charts, official forecasts, and your own eyes.
Your account
You need an account to use the app, and you are responsible for what happens under it. Sign in with an email address, with Apple, or with Google. Keep your credentials to yourself.
Your content is yours
Your photos, catches, notes, tracks and saved spots belong to you. We claim no ownership of them and do not use them for advertising or sell them. We store and process them for one purpose: to run the app for you. See the Privacy Policy for the detail.
What we ask of you
- Follow the fishing regulations where you fish. The app does not know them and will not stop you.
- Do not upload content you have no right to, or content that is unlawful.
- Do not attempt to break, overload, or reverse-engineer the service, or use it to gather other people's data.
Deleting your account
Settings → Delete account removes every catch, photo, trip, zone and saved spot, then the login itself. If you signed in with Apple, the Sign in with Apple connection is released at the same time. It cannot be undone and there is no backup we can restore from.
Availability
The app depends on services we do not control, and on data providers who occasionally go down. Features may change, and parts of the app may be unavailable at times. We will not always be able to give notice.
Paid features
Any paid features are sold through Apple's In-App Purchase. Billing, renewals and refunds are handled by Apple under the terms of your Apple Account, not by us.
Liability
The app is provided as-is, without warranty. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from use of the app or from reliance on the conditions data in it. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Ending things
You may stop using the app and delete your account at any time. We may suspend an account that is being used to break these terms or to harm the service.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States.
Changes
If these terms change, the effective date above changes with them. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new version.
