Catches & photos
Can I import photos from past fishing trips?
Yes. Select the photos you want to add. When a photo includes its original capture time and GPS location, the app can use them to place your catch. You can add or correct missing information yourself.
Why does my photo need a location?
Some photos do not contain GPS information, especially screenshots and images shared through messaging apps. Assign the catch location in the app so it can appear in the right place and request local conditions.
Why are some conditions missing?
Available measurements and historical records depend on the location, date, and provider. Some values come from nearby stations or predictions. Check the source and distance shown with a reading; missing information does not mean the value was zero.
Trips, tides & scouting
Why does trip recording need background location?
With permission, background location lets an active trip continue recording while your screen is locked. Start and end your trip in the app, and manage permissions in iPhone Settings. Continuous GPS use can increase battery consumption.
Does a scouting window guarantee enough water?
No. It compares charted depth and predicted tide with your selected required depth. Wind, current, changing bottom conditions, and other factors can change the actual water depth. Use current official charts, forecasts, and appropriate navigation equipment.
Where are tides available?
Tide predictions depend on available NOAA station coverage, primarily in U.S. coastal waters. Weather and other condition sources have different coverage. Inland locations may have weather and water data without tidal predictions.
Account & troubleshooting
Who can see my catches and saved spots?
Catch records, photos, trips, and saved spots are associated with your account. The app does not have a public catch feed. See the privacy policy for information about storage and service providers.
How do I delete my account?
Open Settings in Catching Alpha and choose Delete account. Follow the confirmation steps. This removes your account and its catches, photos, trips, and saved locations. This action cannot be undone. Contact support if you cannot access your account.
How do I report a problem?
Email support with what you tapped, what you expected, and what happened instead. Include your app version, iPhone model, iOS version, and a screenshot if useful. Do not send passwords or verification codes. You do not need to share a private fishing spot unless it is relevant to the issue.
